The 4th of July fireworks display in the Village of Dieterich is back on for this year.
The pandemic has made a typical 4th of July celebration in Dieterich impossible this year, and the proceeds from each year's 4th of July event provides the funding for the following year's fireworks. When the 4th of July event was called off for this year, organizers were faced with the prospect of having fireworks this year, but not next year when all of the other events should be back. That led to the decision to call off the fireworks for this year.
However, Dieterich resident Kiersten Goodman began a Facebook campaign to raise money for a fireworks show this year, and the campaign was a success with enough funds pledged to have a display this 4th of July.
Dieterich Village Clerk Brittny Gipson said work is underway to develop a flyer with all of the details as to how this year's "Drive In" fireworks display will be conducted.
The Dieterich Village Board this month also took action on several matters.
The Board rezoned property owned by Ryan and Kayla Repking from R-4 mobile home district to R-1 single-family residence district. The Repkings plan to build a house on the property, with approval of a replatting of the land from three lots into one.
The Board discussed changes needed to accommodate an addition to Higgs Welding in Dieterich's Industrial Park West. A variance reducing the setback for the addition from 25 feet down to 13 feet was approved, but a plat of the property is still being completed.
Village Board members also received a letter from the Board of Zoning Appeals and Planning regarding regulation of temporary accessory structures or facilities and passed a change in zoning regulations regarding the structures, and also passed a resolution approving platting and restrictions and covenants for the village's new Industrial Park East. The Board also set a price of $10,000/acre for fully developed property in Industrial Park East.
The Dieterich Board is still waiting on State action on their Liberty Memorial Park OSLAD grant project, but did hear that bids will be opened June 26 on pond cleaning by the park.
Board members heard that a mural project in the downtown area by artist Jamie Stang is progressing well, and heard that those in the village wanting their golf carts inspected need to phone the Village Hall for an appointment.
