Peaceful Protest Planned Saturday in Effingham

Plans are being completed for what organizers say will be a peaceful protest Saturday in Effingham.

The Effingham Social Justice Group will oversee the event, which is to begin at 1pm on the lawn of the old Courthouse downtown. The theme of the event is Unity.

We spoke with Anna Habing, one of the organizers of the rally. Habing said the event will feature a couple of speakers, then a march in the downtown area, then a return to the old Courthouse to hear from a couple of other speakers before the event concludes sometime around 2:30pm.

Habing said the group plans to contact city police so preparations can be made for the event. She said the organizers plan on the rally being "very, very peaceful" with a goal of raising awareness.
