Cumberland school board members have given approval to an alternate graduation plan for high school students.

The first option for the Class of 2020 will be on Sunday, August 2 at 2pm. If the regulations regarding the pandemic do not allow this traditional service to occur, the last date for a drive through ceremony will be on Sunday, August 9 and will be in accordance with the guidelines outlined by the governmental bodies in charge.

The Cumberland board heard that a Google form for Kindergarten Registration for the 2020-2021 school year has been set up. Each child that will be age 5 on or before September 1, 2020 will need to be registered for Kindergarten. A link to the form can be found on the Cumberland school district Facebook page and school website. That will be Step One for registration. When the restrictions are lifted for the state, the district will set a time to finish the process and, hopefully, conduct a quick screening on each child.

In personnel moves, the Cumberland board voted to accept the retirement of Kristi Yocum, effective immediately; accepted the irrevocable letter of retirement from Kathy Bradley, effective at  the end of the 2023-2024 school year; and posted the open position of middle school teacher.

The Board also learned that Cumberland High School student Jaykob Archer has been selected as the 2020-2021 Illinois Association of Student Councils State President.
