Local State Senators Dale Righter and Jason Plummer Wednesday shared that Governor J.B. Pritzker is withdrawing his emergency rule creating a Class A misdemeanor for violating ongoing executive orders.
Righter said, "Thank you to the citizens across the state who have reached out to the legislators on the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules to object to this obvious abuse of authority. This is another lesson that representative democracy works if people choose to make their voices heard."
Plummer said, "This is a great win for democracy, the rule of law and common sense, but we still have a lot of work to do. Thank you to each and every Illinoisans who wrote letters, sent emails and made phone calls in opposition to the governor's complete abuse of power. Your efforts are what put a stop to a blatant overreach of authority."
Regarding the move to withdraw the rule, the governor said he met with legislators and was assured that the matter will be addressed legislatively.
