In a meeting lasting less than five minutes, the Effingham County Board Wednesday endorsed a resolution seeking to reopen Illinois on a faster track than Governor Pritzker's Restore Illinois plan.

The Back to Business plan lays out a three-phase reopening plan of 14 days each, rather than the governor's five-phase plan of 28 days each.

The resolution urges that the plan be promptly implemented, and that the plan should be immediately shared with the governor, the legislative leaders and the caucuses of the General Assembly, as well as any other county or municipality, business or person.

The resolution was approved on a unanimous voice vote.

News Director Greg Sapp spoke with Board Chairman Jim Niemann following the meeting as to the action and where things go from this point...

A liquor establishment in the county was open last Sunday. The establishment's owner has already been served a letter from the State asking them to remain closed until the Stay-At-Home Order changes.
