The Altamont school board Monday approved a new date for high school commencement.
Altamont Superintendent Steve Mayerhofer said the ceremony is now set for 1pm on Saturday, June 6. Mayerhofer said at this point, the plan is for a drive-up ceremony that will allow recognition for each graduate. The Beecher City district held a similar ceremony recently.
The Altamont board also approved the calendar for the coming school year, with the first day for students scheduled for August 13.
Board members, of course, also considered the possibility that remote learning might still be in effect when the school year starts. Mayerhofer said the administrative staff is meeting weekly and making provision in case students aren't back in class.
The Board heard that three vendors participated in a pre-bid meeting regarding providing food service for the Altamont district. Bids are to be opened June 1, with the Board to consider whether to award a bid at their June 8 meeting or to continue in-house food service.
Mayerhofer reminded that a bid opening is scheduled on roof work on the junior high building and replacement of one HVAC unit at the junior high, and that the District is seeking a technology support person.
The Board hired Nicholas Tkachuk as summer maintenance help, hired Carly Dorr as Altamont dance coach; and renewed a one-year agreement with Sarah Bush Lincoln for athletic training services.
