Dieterich village board members would like to provide access by sidewalk along Illinois Route 33 from downtown to the west side industrial park and the Dollar General store.

The Board asked Village Engineer Lee Beckman at this week's meeting to check on the logistics of such a sidewalk extension.

Board members also discussed proper use of golf carts in the village. Dieterich residents are being reminded that golf carts must be operated by those 16 or older who have a valid driver's license. Another reminder is that everyone in a golf cart has to have a seat; in other words, if there are two seats in the golf cart, no more than two people can be riding and the regulation means no kids riding on laps of those in the seats.

The Dieterich board discussed recent vandalism at the village park pavilion. There was discussion over adopting fines and other penalties for such actions.

The Board approved the appointment ordinance for the village board and for the board of zoning appeals and planning commission. There are no changes from last year. The Board also approved a 37-month wastewater operator contract with EJ Water Cooperative.

There were also comments shared of the mural being painted by artist Jamie Stang-Ellis on the building directly south of Dieterich Bank. To date, a sunny background and green fields are a part of the work, with more to come.
