Crews were hard at work Thursday at Effingham Junior High School, constructing a parking lot and building a north-south roadway.

The project involves a 74-space parking lot off Richland Avenue, and the roadway that will allow closing the breezeway in back of the junior high building. The roadway will run from Richland Avenue to Grove Avenue, basically along the west part of the track.

Effingham Asphalt was awarded the work for just over $700,000. The project also includes construction of a roadway in front of the junior high to replace the circle drive and extend north to Richland Avenue. That roadway will allow buses to stop in front of the junior high building and unload students to lessen the impact on Henrietta Street and Richland Avenue.
