The Citizens Utility Board has vowed to keep an eye on an AmerenIllinois rate request.

The utility is asking the Illinois Commerce Commission for permission to reduce gas and electricity rates by about $45.3 million. The utility filed the paperwork last month.

CUB spokesperson Jim Chilsen says they should know if Ameren's request has been approved by the end of the year.

Chilsen reminds the proposed decrease would affect delivery charges--what all customers pay to have the electricity delivered to their homes. Those charges take up about a third to a half of the bill. The rest of the bill is taken up by the cost of the electricity itself.
