Effingham County Board Chairman Jim Niemann Friday said that a local company that had been considering leaving Effingham has decided instead to stay, and that additional jobs could be relocated here.

A spokesman for the company, that Niemann did not publicly identify, Friday said there is still some decision-making to be completed and that the deal is not done.

Niemann told the Effingham County Chamber First Friday Luncheon crowd that the company has a location in Beloit, Wisconsin that is being closed and that's behind the hope that additional jobs would be coming here.  The company representative confirmed that their Beloit facility is closing.

The Effingham location employs 40 people.

Niemann also spoke about the duty of government to, as he sees it, is to "get out of the lives of the citizens so they can live their lives."

Niemann said he has been interested in government since college.  He is pleased with the variety of backgrounds and beliefs on the county board and that it adds to the variety of opinions on the board.  Niemann said he hasn't heard "Democrat" or "Republican" come up where board members are concerned in the months since he became board chairman.
