Car and Semi Collide on Interstate at Effingham

A car and semi collided on the interstate on the north side of Effingham Monday night.

State police report the crash occurred at 7:55pm and involved a car driven by 37-year-old Philip Stein of Effingham and a semi driven by an Alexandria, Virginia man, 32-year-old Fikadu Tesefahuney. 

Police report both units were southbound when the semi slowed due to traffic and the car struck the semi from behind.

Stein was transported to an area hospital with what were termed minor injuries.

Stein was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.

Effingham firefighters assisted at the scene.
