Many Area Schools Will Now Be Closed on Monday

Effingham Unit 40 schools will now be closed tomorrow (Monday, March 16). Some other area districts are following suit.

A statement released by Unit 40 Superintendent Mark Doan Sunday afternoon reads, "Out of an abundance of caution, Effingham Unit #40 schools will cancel school for Monday, March 16, 2020, due to COVID-19 concerns.

All District staff is asked to report to their school/building at their regular time.

Doan said the indication is that some other districts plan to take the same action to cancel classes on Monday. We have learned that Beecher City #20, Altamont #10, Dieterich #30, and Stew-Stras #5A. We will let you know as we hear from other districts.
