Effingham County Sheriff's Testing

The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office will conduct testing to establish an eligibility list for the position of Deputy Sheriff.

The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office is also starting a lateral transfer list for trained Law Enforcement Officers who desire to apply for a position as Deputy Sheriff. Eligible candidates must have at least twelve (12) months of full-time uninterrupted service, with one or more recognized Illinois Police agencies and have obtained certification through the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board. The employee will be placed at a wage level and benefits of a second year Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputy.

Non-experienced applicants will be required to pass a written test. They must be 21 years of age before being considered for hire. Applicants must have or be able to obtain a valid Illinois driver’s license and be willing to submit to a background investigation. No one with a felony conviction will be accepted for testing.

Applications may be picked up at the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office, 101 North Fourth Street, Effingham, IL, or downloaded and printed from the Effingham County website http://www.co.effingham.il.us/sheriff-department. All applicants (for persons without prior law enforcement experience) must pay a non-refundable testing fee of twentydollars ($20.00) upon returning their application and resume. All applications, along with a detailed resume and the twenty dollar payment, must be received by the Sheriff’s Office no later than 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2020. Applications and resumes for testing will not be accepted after the deadline. Persons who fail to pay the testing fee will not be eligible to test. Anyone who has applied prior to this notice must submit a new application and resume. Persons who pass the written test will be eligible for hire for a period of two years following the test date. Please bring your driver’s license or other issued photo identification to the following test date and time.

Orientation and test date will be Tuesday, March 24 at 6:00PM.

The test will be given at the Effingham County Emergency Operations Center located at 311 Miracle Avenue, Effingham.
