Greenup Inn

Cumberland County Coroner Steve Sherwood said the victim was 48-year-old Larry Owens, Jr. Sherwood said Owens was a resident of the motel.

Firefighters were called to the motel located at the intersection of US Route 40 and Illinois Route 130 in Greenup at 10:36pm. Sherwood said the fire was pretty much confined to the one unit at the motel. Owens was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sherwood said the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, but said there is nothing to indicate the fire was intentional. He said an autopsy will be conducted to officially determine the cause of death.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office reports that firefighters cleared the scene at 1:49am.
