Adult-Use Cannabis Sales Begin in Effingham

With security in place and a celebratory atmosphere inside, Effingham's Rise operation, formerly known as The Clinic Effingham, opened their doors Saturday morning for the city's first day of adult-use cannabis sales.

Green Thumb Industries said Rise Effingham, the company's sixth retail operation in Illinois, will be open 8 am-8 pm Saturday and Sunday for their opening weekend, with regular hours of 9 am-7 pm Monday-Saturday. 

Security is a focus as you enter Effingham's first retail marijuana location, with employees taking information on tablets before allowing entrance into the building. From there, an entrance off the lobby is marked for retail customers who are age 21 and over.

Kelly Esker, Director of Outreach for Rise, spoke to us about the process of getting the location approved by the city, and the tax benefits they anticipate for Effingham.

Esker said they expect to be very busy this weekend, with warmer weather and the store's location, easily accessible from Keller Drive off Interstates 57/70.

Documentation inside the operation states that Illinois residents can possess up to 30 grams of cannabis, up to 500 mg of THC in edible form and 5 grams of cannabis concentrate. Out-of-state residents are allowed 15 grams of cannabis, up to 250 mg of THC edible form and 2.5 grams of cannabis concentrate.
