Semi Sideswipes SUV on Interstate Between Effingham and Altamont; Two Injured

A semi sideswiped a SUV Monday night on the interstate between Effingham and Altamont, sending two people to the hospital.

The crash happened at 6:57pm on I-70 westbound, three miles east of Altamont. State police report the semi driven by 34-year-old Derek Boxdorfer of Kampsville, attempted to merge from the left lane to the right lane and struck the SUV, driven by 56-year-old Ginorio Migdalia of West Plains, Missouri. Migdalia lost control of the SUV, which struck the guardrail.

Migdalia and her passenger, a female juvenile from Hollister, Missouri, were injured and were transported for treatment to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Boxdorfer was cited for improper lane usage.
