Several transportation improvement projects around town could cause travel delays.

Northbound Banker Street between Jefferson and Washington Avenues is closed until 6pm Wednesday. Construction crews have a crane positioned in the northbound lane to work on the roof of the former First National Bank of Effingham building at the corner of Jefferson Avenue and Banker Street.

The City has three different construction crews that are cleaning, televising and installing liners to rehabilitate sanitary sewer mains, as well as manholes, owned by the City of Effingham. The roads will be accessible at all times, however, minor delays are possible. Motorists are urged to follow the construction signs and to slow down wherever they find the construction crews. The work is going on throughout the city.

The north side of Jefferson Avenue, from Merchant Street to the stop sign at Maple Street, will be the scene of water line installation as of today. B&T Construction will be doing the work. The road will be accessible at all times, however, minor delays are possible with lane closures a possibility. The project may take three to four weeks to complete.
