Altamont Man Found Dead; Death Believed Due to Natural Causes

An Altamont man was found dead Tuesday afternoon. It's believed the death was due to natural causes.

Authorities found the body of 62-year-old Paul Stasiak of Altamont, originally from Missouri, just before 1:30pm Tuesday.

Altamont police responded to ther Senior Residences at 406 East Cumberland Road in Altamont regarding a welfare check on an individual. The family had called the police to check on Stasiak as they were unable to make contact with him for several days.

Altamont Police Chief Alan Heiens and Officer John Cotton discovered Stasiak dead in the apartment. Abbott EMS was also on scene. The Coroner's Office was notified and County Coroner Kim Rhodes and Deputy Coroner Karen Hoene responded to the scene and pronounced Stasiak dead. According to his family members, Stasiak had been working in Altamont and had been living in Altamont for about 10 years.

Coroner Rhodes said the initial investigation indicated that no foul play is involved and the death appears to be due to natural causes. Medical records were requested and the investigation continues by the Coroner's Office.
