November Jobless Rate Below 3% in Effingham County

The November unemployment rate in Effingham County fell below 3%.

The 2.7% rate is down from 3.6% in November 2018.

Non-farm employment in Effingham County increased by 600 compared to last year. Employment gains were posted in Government (200), Manufacturing (100) and Educational and Health Services (100). Slight increases were reported in Information, Wholesale Trade, Leisure and Hospitality, Transportation, Warehousing, and Utilities, Retail Trade, Professional and Business Services, and Other Services.

Slight decreases were reported in Construction, Financial Activities, and Natural Resources and Mining.

Area counties and their November jobless rates:

Coles 3.3%, down from 4.6%

Cumberland 2.6%, down from 3.7%

Shelby 3.3%, down from 4.3%

Clay 3.7%, down from 5.3%

Fayette 3.7%, down from 5.2%

Jasper 3.1%, down from 4.5%

The state jobless rate in November was 3.4%, down from 4.0% in November 2018.
