Beecher City School Board Signs Off on Enterprise Zone Plan

Beecher City school board members this month approved the Altamont/Beecher City/Effingham County Enterprise Zone as presented.

Altamont has had an Enterprise Zone for several years, but Beecher City was looking for an economic shot in the arm. The thought is that including Beecher City would also give Altamont's request for a renewal of its Zone a boost.

An Enterprise Zone offers various economic incentives to businesses locating or expanding in the Zone. The incentives, though, have an impact on the affected taxing bodies so that's why the Board of each of those taxing bodies have to give the plan their blessing.

The Beecher City board also passed the tax levy for the new fiscal year, and approved the SIPC agreement for the coming year.

Board members accepted the resignation of Jenna Tedrick as a social worker at the end of this school year.
