A Lerna resident now faces two counts of murder following the death of his infant son.
21-year-old Isaac M. Currey was arrested at 3am Tuesday.

The Coles County Sheriff's Department and EMT first responders were called to a house in Lerna Monday regarding an unresponsive four-month-old. The infant was pronounced dead at the scene. He was then taken to the Champaign County Coroner's Office where an autopsy was conducted.
Subsequent interviews of the parents were arranged through the assistance of the Altamont Police Department. A release from the Coles County Sheriff's Department states "through the course of the investigation the victim's father Isaac Currey related that during the previous evening he had dropped the infant and he believed injury had occurred. He identified that the child's breathing had changed and gasps were heard. The infant was put in bed and no emergency treatment was sought. The child was found unresponsive the next morning."
During a court hearing Tuesday, testimony was delivered that an autopsy of the boy showed his injuries were inflicted on him and not the result of a fall.
The Coles County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Altamont Police Department and the Mattoon Police Department.
Altamont Police Chief Alan Heiens said Coles County deputies were in Altamont about 6pm Monday to interview Currey. Heiens said there is no reason why the interview occurred in Altamont, other than that is where Coles County authorities learned Currey could be found.
Currey is scheduled to be in Coles County Court for a preliminary hearing on January 13.
