A local man was injured when accidentally shot during the first weekend of the Illinois firearm deer hunting season.
Todd Weishaar of Teutopolis was hunting at Island Creek Cemetery in Jasper County when the incident occurred at 10:15am Saturday.
Illinois Department of Natural Resources spokesperson Rachel Torbert said Weishaar and Franklin Enloe of Toledo were participating in a deer drive. Weishaar was standing at the edge of the woods 200+ yards away, but not visible to Enloe, when Enloe fired five shots, one striking Weishaar. Torbert said Weishaar was shot through a kneecap.
Weishaar was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, then was transferred to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana where his condition is stable.
Torbert said no hunting violations occurred.
