Several candidates have filed for state and federal offices as the filing period for the March 2020 primary began Monday.
All of those who filed when the filing period opened in Springfield were Republicans.
Three people filed to succeed Darren Bailey of Xenia as State Representative from the 109th District. Those include Andy Hires of Olney, Cory Musgrave of Geff and Adam Niemerg of Dieterich.
The 109th District seat is open since Bailey is running for 55th District State Senator. Bailey is running to succeed Dale Righter of Mattoon, who is not seeking re-election. Bailey was among those who filed Monday morning.
Three people filed for Congress from the 15th US District. Those are Mary Miller of Oakland, Darren Duncan of Rossville and Kerry Wolff of Altamont. The three are vying to succeed John Shimkus, who is not seeking re-election.
Also filing...incumbent Brad Halbrook of Shelbyville for another term as 102nd District State Representative; Joel Powless of Clay County who is seeking election as Clay County Resident Circuit Judge. Powless was appointed to the bench earlier this year when Robin Todd retired; and Chris Miller of Oakland for another term as 110th District State Representative. Mary Miller, the congressional candidate, is his wife.
