Ground was broken Wednesday for an addition to Heartland Dental Care in Network Centre High-Tech Park on Effingham's busy northeast side.

The 40,000 square foot addition will double the size of the Heartland facility.  It's estimated that 167 new jobs will be created by the $7.7 million project, which will also create space allowing the return of the Institute at Heartland Dental.  The Institute for several years provided training for dental software practices that utilize Heartland's services.  The space was eventually taken by an influx of new hires, meaning motel space was utilized for training sessions.

Heartland founder and CEO Dr. Rick Workman optimistically predicted that the space to be created by the addition would be filled within five years, and said, "We'll be back here to announce another project."

COO Pat Bauer said it's beneficial for employees of the dental offices that come under Heartland's umbrella to come to Effingham to meet the company officials and better understand how the Heartland process works.

Background information received to announce the expansion project also indicated that the company would be acquiring land for future expansion of the existing campus.
