Flora Man Injured in Late Night Crash

A Flora man was injured in a single-vehicle crash in Clay County just before midnight Monday night.

The crash happened on Fairfield Road at Popeberry Lane at 11:45pm. Illinois State Police report 24-year-old Caleb Smith was southbound on Fairfield Road when he lost control of his vehicle, causing it to enter into a skid. The car exited the roadway, and struck a ditch embankment.

Smith was transported by ambulance to Clay County Hospital in Flora, then later to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.

Smith was cited for improper lane usage, failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash, DUI alcohol, and failure to wear a seat belt.
