The "Miracle on the Ice" video continues to gain interest as Illinois State Police hope to use the incident to get motorists to slow down, especially in inclement weather.
The incident stems from the wintry weather that visited the area on November 12.
In case you've missed it, two District 19 ISP Troopers were assisting the driver of a SUV with changing a tire on the westbound shoulder of I-64 in Wayne County. The driver of a box truck passing the scene lost control of the truck on the ice-covered pavement. The box truck struck the SUV before overturning onto the grassy shoulder of I-64. Both state troopers and the driver of the SUV were outside of the vehicle at the time of the incident and were forced to run away from the interstate and down an embankment to avoid being struck by the box truck. One of the troopers yelled to the woman to "Watch Out!" and then attempted to pull her to safety. The woman fell into the ditch line and the box truck slid over the top of her, also missing the troopers.
The woman, 67-year-old Peggy Vaught of Fairfield, was injured in the crash and was taken for treatment. Both troopers escaped injury as did Vaught's passenger, who remained in the vehicle during the incident.
The driver of the box truck was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.
