Altamont school board members hope to learn why more students don't eat school lunches.

The state average for students eating school lunches is 70%, but the Altamont average is just 55%. The Board empowered Superintendent Steve Mayerhofer to identify barriers and potential remedies to the low school lunch utilization.

Board members approved the purchase of manufacturing equipment for use in a program at Altamont Community High School, and approved the Manufacturing course as outlined by high school principal Jerry Tkachuk. The Board also acknowledged a donation by Ryan Eckhardt at Thrivent Financial to make the equipment purchase possible.

In personnel moves, the Altamont board approved Caroline Harder as a volunteer coach for high school girls basketball, approved Tracy Grunloh as a volunteer volleyball coach, approved Robbie Kiline as grade school TCT leader, and approved Robin Belcher as a district cook and assigned her to Altamont Grade School.
