Effingham, Altamont Veterans Day Observances This Morning

The Effingham Community Veterans Day observance will take place this morning.
The ceremony will begin at 10:30am at the Veterans Memorial on the lawn of the Effingham County Courthouse Museum. Effingham DAV Chapter #7 is in charge of this year's observance, along with Ladies Auxiliary Unit 7.
DAV Commander Dave Althoff will serve as Master of Ceremonies. The guest speaker will be US Army Veteran John Schimmelpfenning.
Reverend Gary Fortkamp will offer the invocation and deliver the benediction and Pat and Julie Zuber will sing the National Anthem. Robert and Charles McWhorter will oversee the raising of colors, and the St. Anthony High School Band under the direction of Christy Cyrus will provide a patriotic selection. Sergeant at Arms Bill Copple will take charge of the 21-gun salute, and George Scheidamental and Kevin Gonzalez will play "Taps".
A noon meal will follow the ceremony at the DAV Club Room on Vulcan Drive in Effingham.

Altamont will celebrate Veterans Day with a ceremony beginning at 11am at the Carriage House Event Center.
Altamont American Legion Post #512 will post the colors and the Altamont Community Choir will sing. At 11:15am, local St. Rep. Blaine Wilhour will speak, followed by local Congressman John Shimkus. At 11:45am, Immanuel Lutheran Church Pastor Jim Wright will offer the prayer and the Community Choir will again sing, and there will be a catered meal courtesy of Deb's Catering. At 12:45pm, Altamont VFW Post #7676 will play "Taps" and will offer a 21-gun salute.
