Altamont Council Discusses Using UTVs in Town

Altamont City Council members were approached Monday night by Terry Plowman, who was seeking permission to use UTVs in the city.

Council members understand that the Effingham County Board is researching the same issue, so decided to wait and see what action the Board might take before making any decisions on the matter.

The Altamont Council granted a special use permit for a manufactured home to be located on a residential lot at 712 West Jackson, and approved a variance for a ground mounted solar unit at 110 North 10th. The Council had earlier only permitted rooftop solar units, but decided that this lot has sufficient space as to not affect the neighbors.
