Effingham Police Chief Jason McFarland said his office had investigated a domestic incident Friday night. McFarland said a man believed involved allegedly fled from Illinois State Police and said there were warrants active for the man's arrest.

On Saturday, police received information that the man was at a house in the 300 block of West Kreke and the man had indicated he wasn't going back to jail. Police responded, on Saturday afternoon, including the ILEAS SWAT Team. The man was taken into custody without incident.

The man, 31-year-old Damian Ely of Effingham, was arrested on a local warrant charging fleeing or attempting to elude police, as well as aggravated assault and knowingly damaging property, driving on a suspended license, and a warrant from Shelby County.

A woman in the house, 26-year-old Bryn Clemens of Effingham, was also taken into custody for obstructing justice.

Both Ely and Clemens were in custody at last report.
