Dr. Charles Ellington of Camargo and Mary Miller of Oakland have each announced their candidacy for the Republican nomination for Congress from the 15th Illinois District.

Incumbent Republican John Shimkus has announced he will not seek re-election.

This is the statement released by Charles Ellington's campaign:

(DR. CHARLES ELLINGTON)

Dr. Ellington strongly supports President Trump’s vision to make America Great Again, and believes each congressional district, and indeed each American, can bring their own unique perspective on how to make that vision a reality on the ground and in our day to day lives.

As a practicing family physician, licensed attorney, health policy expert, and assistant professor of Family and Community Medicine, Dr. Ellington has extensive experience with the healthcare system and public policy as a whole.  His background  and knowledge makes him uniquely suited to serve in the US House of Representatives. Since the House of Representatives controls the purse of the country, Dr. Ellington believes the American people have a right to know about their representatives finances and where those finances come from. Consequently he will be releasing his tax returns and encourages all those running for this office to do the same.

Dr. Ellington’s rural roots run deep. He was born in Tuscola to working class parents who instilled in him a strong faith in God, a deep love for America, and the conviction that with hard work and determination the opportunities this country provides are almost limitless. He developed the strong conviction that all life is valuable, even the unborn, and that the second amendment guarantees responsible gun ownership. He is a proud member of the NRA. He learned at a young age that conservative principles are a powerful tool to empower individuals, elevate communities, and create greater opportunities for all of us. As a proud husband to his wife Anita and loving father to his two sons, Gunner 15, and Jericho 12, he strives everyday to pass those values on to his children. Dr. Ellington loves the outdoors and enjoys taking his family camping, hiking, kayaking, and taking his boys target shooting whenever he can.

As a rural family physician practicing in Arthur, he works daily to improve the health and lives of his community. He not only sees the challenges his patients face every day, but opportunities to make their lives better. The rich land of central and southern Illinois produces some of the best crops in the world, and it also produces some of the most amazing, resilient, capable people you will ever find. These are the people who make America great, and Dr. Ellington would consider it an honor to serve as their Congressman.

This is the statement released by Mary Miller's campaign:

(MARY MILLER)

Mary Miller, a conservative Republican, has announced her run for Congress in the state's 15th Congressional District. Involved in agriculture, small business, education, church and family, Mary is running to stand up for the future of the American Dream.

"I want to advocate for faith, family, and freedom. I will do what is best to uphold the Constitution of the United States and fight against the far-left socialist agenda which is detrimental to the future of our country and is full of nothing but false promises," said Miller.

Mary’s top priorities will be making the President's tax cuts permanent, promoting Illinois agriculture, coal and oil production, pro-growth business policies and protecting our southern border.

"I stand with President Trump on immigration," Miller said.  "Everyone agrees that legal immigration has been, and will continue to be, an important part of what makes us a great country. But we cannot continue to allow people to sneak in illegally.  We need to secure our border, build the wall, and reform our immigration system."

Miller is passionately pro-life, pro-2nd Amendment, a supporter of term limits, deregulation, and is for free and fair trade. Coming from the perspective of a middle class American, farmer, small business owner, and a mother, Mary understands the challenges people in the 15th District face every day.

“It will be a privilege to represent the hardworking taxpayers, businesses, and families of this district!  I especially want to do what is best for the future of our children.”

Born in Oak Park, Illinois, Mary Miller graduated from Naperville Central High School and has a BS in Business Management and a BA in Elementary Education from Eastern Illinois University. Mary and her husband Chris have been married for 39 years and together they run a grain and cattle farm. They have seven children and sixteen grandchildren.

The 15th Congressional District includes all of 29 counties and parts of four counties. The District is almost 52 percent rural. To learn more about Mary Miller, click here to visit her website.
