Three Mattoon residents are in jail after a “drive-by” shooting early Saturday morning, reportedly stemming from a drug deal gone wrong.

On Saturday, October 19th at 5:36 a.m. Mattoon police arrested Dylan D. Shull, age 18 of Mattoon. The arrest occurred in the 900 block of N. 33rd street. Shull was charged with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm. Police also arrested Dillon A. Collier, age 18 and also of Mattoon, at 7:36 a.m. in the 1000 block of Broadway. Collier was charged with Reckless Discharge of a Firearm. The two men are suspects in a “drive-by” shooting.

The arrests came as a result of an incident that occurred in the 400 block of Dewitt Avenue at approximately. 12:09 a.m. During that incident, Police were dispatched to a residence in regards to shots being fired. Upon arrival, Officers learned that at least nine (9) bullets had been shot into a house that was occupied by several adults and an infant. No one was hit by the gunfire.

An investigation commenced that led to the arrest of Dylan Shull for Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm. That charge alleges that Shull, while knowing that the residence was occupied by adults and a baby, used a .22 cal. rifle to shoot numerous rounds into the home. Dillon Collier was charged with Reckless Discharge of a Firearm. That charge alleges that Collier was the driver of the vehicle used in the shooting while knowing that his passenger, Shull, was going to fire a gun into an occupied home.

The investigation included the execution of a search warrant by the Coles County Crisis Response Team at 6:15 a.m. in the 900 block of N. 33rd street (where Shull was staying). Firearms stolen from burglaries in Mattoon and Cumberland County were recovered during the execution of that warrant.

Bailey R. Hutchinson, age 18 of Mattoon, was arrested at approximately 6:20 a.m. and charged with Possession of Stolen Firearms. That charge alleges that Hutchinson was in possession of firearms that were stolen during said burglaries.

All suspects were taken to the Coles County Jail.
