Consolidated Communications technicians in Effingham began work Tuesday to complete repairs on an equipment cabinet damaged when struck by an automobile earlier this year.

As a result, Consolidated Communications customers on the south side of Effingham could experience a service interruption as technicians work to install the permanent cabinet.
"It is possible customers will not experience an interruption in their phone, Internet or TV service at all," said Brandon Walker, Manager of Illinois Field Operations at Consolidated Communications. "But, if there is an interruption, customers could be without service anywhere from a few minutes to two hours. We anticipate the majority of the work to be completed on Wednesday and appreciate the understanding of customers as we work to install the permanent cabinet."
The incident happened in late July when a driver ran off South 4th Street outside the Lincolnland Building and plowed into the equipment cabinet. The incident caused Consolidated crews to check to insure every connection was intact before it was put back into service.
The driver told Effingham city police that they fell asleep, leading to the incident.
