Effingham County Jobless Rate Below 3%

The rate of 2.9% is down from 3.7% in August 2018.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security reports non-farm employment increased by 900 jobs in August compared to last year.
Employment gains were posted in Government (+600), Manufacturing (+200), Educational and Health Services (+100), Retail Trade (+100) and Information (+100). Slight increases were reported in Transportation, Warehousing, and Utilities, Wholesale Trade and Other Services.
Employment in Leisure and Hospitality (-100) and Construction (-100) declined. Slight decreases were reported in Natural Resources and Mining, Professional and Business Services, and Financial Activities.
Area counties also drops in unemployment in August from one year earlier.
Coles County--3.8%, down from 5.2%
Cumberland County--2.9%, down from 4.3%
Shelby County--3.3%, down from 4.3%
Clay County--4.2%, down from 5.5%
Fayette County--3.9%, down from 5.0%
Jasper County--3.6%, down from 5.3%
