County Board Enacts Cannabis Sales Tax

The Effingham County Board enacted a cannabis sales tax during a special meeting Wednesday night.

County Board Chairman Jim Niemann said sales will be taxed at the maximum rate. Cannabis sales become legal in Illinois as of January 1.

The vote to approve the tax was 6-2. Board members Lloyd Foster and Dave Campbell voted No. Our earlier information on the members who voted No was incorrect. Our apologies for the incorrect information.
