Details Now Available On Fatal Crash on West Fayette Saturday Evening

(THE SEMI INVOLVED IN A CRASH WITH A PASSENGER VEHICLE SATURDAY EVENING ON FAYETTE AVENUE)

Details are now available from Effingham City Police on a fatal crash on West Fayette Avenue at the Fayette frontage road.

The crash closed Fayette Avenue Saturday evening from the frontage road west to the interstate.

Police report a car driven by 54-year-old Corrine M. Bottila of Crystal River, Florida, was headed east on Fayette then entered the opposite lane of traffic as a semi driven by 53-year-old Robert D. Matson of Newton was traveling westbound, causing the vehicles to collide head-on.

Bottila was transported by ambulance to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, where she died from her injuries. Matson was not injured. 

No citations were issued.

Officials are asking that anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call city police at (217) 347-0774 or the county coroner's office at (217) 342-4651.

An accident reconstruction officer was called to the scene, and West Fayette remained closed to traffic in both directions for several hours Saturday night.
