Fire Damages Home in Grupe Subdivision

Shumway Fire Protection District firefighters were called to the Dick Bence residence at 10831 East Aminoff Drive at about 12:10pm. Shumway Battalion Chief Justin Quandt said the cause of the fire was undetermined, but said they were leaning toward it being electrical in origin. 

The fire was confined to a bedroom and its contents, but Quandt said there was significant smoke damage throughout the structure.

Effingham firefighters assisted the Shumway department at the scene. Firefighters were on scene until about 1:30pm.

Quandt acknowledged the help of an Ameren Illinois crew working nearby who used a garden hose to knock down the fire until firefighters could reach the scene.
