Effingham County property tax bills are arriving in the mail.

Property Taxes

The due dates for 2018 payable 2019 bills have been announced. At least the first installment of your tax bill is due Friday, September 20. The second installment is due Friday, November 1.

There is a 1-1/2% per month penalty for late payment of your bill.

Effingham County Treasurer Paula Miller said tax bills with property ownership changes after December 31, 2018 will not reflect the new owner's name and address, and must be forwarded to the person or persons responsible for payment.

Miller directed county taxpayers to the website at www.co.effingham.il.us. Click on the "Treasurer" link. Additional information is on the site regarding real estate tax collection, tax due dates, the tax cycle and the county treasurer's real estate tax pre-payment program.

The total amount of taxes extended for all taxing districts for the 2018 payable 2019 tax year is $54,174,880.90, compared to the total for 2017 payable 2018 taxes of $51,886,981.58, an overall increase of 4.4%.
