Ryan Feezel, 23 of Brownstown, was sentenced to three years in prison in Marion County Court Thursday after earlier pleading guilty to a reckless homicide charge.

Ryan Feezel 640

Feezel had originally told police the crash occurred after he fell asleep later admitted being under the influence of methamphetamine when his southbound SUV crossed the centerline of U.S. 51 near Patoka in July 2016 and struck a motorcycle driven by Kevin Koenegstein of Odin. Koenegstein died as a result of the crash. His wife who was riding a motorcycle with her husband was injured in the accident.

Two counts of aggravated DUI were dropped as part of the earlier plea.

Feezel will have to complete one-year mandatory supervised release when getting out of prison.   He was given credit for time served.  Feezel had the sentence stayed until nine am August 15th.

The case had gone to the 5th District Appellate Court as Feezel attempted to dismiss the felony DUI charge because he had already pleaded to the lesser traffic ticket.
