Cumberland school board members have approved a three-year contract with district teachers.

The contract covers the coming school year and the following two years. The Board also approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the teachers association.

School Board President Bob Blade informed the Board that an insurance committee will be formed in accordance with the new contract. Blad, Howard Markwell and Anita Hayden will serve with three members of the teachers union on the committee.

The Board is still working on a contract with district support staff members.

In personnel moves, the Cumberland board employed Jolynn Brown as a fulltime bus driver, employed Carrie Althoff as a fulltime classroom aide, and employed Stephanie Nichols as district drama director.

The Board learned that Cumberland High School will be hosting its annual college and career day on September 12 at 1pm in the gym. Several colleges and career pursuits will have speakers present to speak with Cumberland students and other area high school students about their plans after high school. A Financial Aid night will be held that evening, starting at 6pm.

Also, Neal Center YMCA is currently registering students that would like to participate in the before-and-after school program for the coming school year.
