75th Annual Effingham County Fair is Here

The 75th Annual Effingham County Fair opens Saturday, beginning a weeklong run of activities.
While fairs have been held throughout the county for more than a century on a periodic basis, the fair at Altamont is the longest continuing such event.
Saturday events scheduled include:
7:30am--5K run
9am--car show
10am--ranch sorting
Noon-10pm--Mid America Jumper
2, 4 and 6pm--Magic Mike, the magician
3:30, 5:30pm--photography tips in the Schuetzenfest Building
6:30pm--Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League
Feature evening events the remainder of Fair Week:
Sunday--parade at 4:30pm, talent show at 6:30pm, Junior Miss Pageant at 8pm
Monday--Hasting's Filters and Dust and Son Truck, Tractor and Garden Tractor Pull at 6:30pm
Tuesday--Miss Effingham County Fair Queen Pageant and Little Miss Pageant at 7pm
Wednesday--4-H Auction at 5:30pm, Hasting's Filters and Dust and Son Truck, Tractor and Antique Blower pulling competition, 6:30pm
Thursday--Rodeo at 7:30pm
Friday--Josh Turner concert at 8:15pm (following opening act Emily Ann Roberts at 7pm), fireworks at 10pm
Saturday, August 3--Demolition Derby, 6:30pm
The fair will continue it's time-honored tradition of horse racing action. Harness racing will take place Sunday through Thursday with a 1pm post time. A combination of harness racing, Western racing and kids races are set for Friday with a noon post time. A reminder that you can hear live coverage of the racing each day; Sunday on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com due to NASCAR action from Pocono Raceway on KJ Country 102.3, Monday through Friday on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com.

Judging is already in full swing for this year's fair. A reminder that we again this year will broadcast the 4-H judging results at 8:45am on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com beginning Monday.
