Effingham Public Library board members heard this week that Summer Read for 2019 is going well.

Library Director Amanda McKay said 1,300 kids are registered for the program, and more than 100 kids have completed the program as of Monday.

McKay said there is still time to sign up for the program.

Board members discussed holding a Board retreat. McKay said it's probably been three years since the last retreat, and said some Board members have never had the opportunity to participate. No date has been set for the retreat.

The library board approved front end documents for a roofing project. McKay said there've been problems with the roof the past couple of years. Bids for the work are to be opened on July 22.

The Board also approved the building and maintenance levy ordinance. The measure invoved .02% of the city's total EAV, generating about $50,000 for the library.
