The Effingham Public Library will host a panel discussion about the current challenges facing recycling Tuesday, June 11 at 6pm in the Workman Room at the library.

The dilemma with what to do with items earmarked for recycling is playing out across the United States. The country generates more than 250 million tons of waste a year, according to the EPA, with about a third of this recycled and composted.

Guest panelists Bill Elving and Nancy Totten from Centenary United Methodist Church; Brian Hayes, owner of Landfill 33; Chris Mette, representing recycling in Teutopolis; and Sarah Ruholl Sehy with Effingham Recycles will share insights into how the situation developed and how the community could respond well.

No registration is required for the free event.
