An interruption in electric service to parts of Effingham's south side left the Effingham Park Board in the dark when it was time to hold Wednesday night's meeting.

The Board used their cell phones and flashlights to conduct business.

The Board put the proposed fiscal year appropriations ordinance on display for public inspection, with adoption planned at the July meeting.

The measure, according to Park District Director Jeff Althoff, is "right in line with last year".

In his report, Althoff told the Board that almost all work is complete at Harmony Playground at Evergreen Hollow Park except for some dirt work where every time Park District crews get ready to do the work, the rains fall. Also needing completed is a donor wall. Once those items are completed, a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be scheduled.

Speaking of Evergreen Hollow Park, Althoff is hopeful of getting underway soon with work on a dog park. That will proceed once Harmony Playground is completed and donations are received for the dog park.

Althoff said Kluthe Memorial Pool at Evergreen Hollow is going well, except the weather hasn't been hot enough to promote much swimming. Physically, though, Althoff said the pool is operating correctly.

Althoff also had good news regarding Park District summer programs. He said there are 475 boys and 250 girls participating in baseball and softball, plus 150 kids involved in Adventure Camp.
