There is approval for legal marijuana in Illinois.

The House okayed the measure 66-47 Friday. The bill will be signed by Governor J.B. Pritzker. After his signature is on the bill, starting January 1, 2020 residents over 21 will be able to hold 30 grams or about one ounce of marijuana.

The State will also be issuing licenses for grow operations, processors and retail stores with the state taxing the retail sales of the drug.

Home grow will be limited to those with medical marijuana cards and each person will only be allowed five plants.

A one-time sticking point has moved forward with the bill. There will be a path towards expungement of past marijuana convictions through the Governor's clemency process.
