The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) has chosen the 263-acre Hawickhorst-Jones site located along South U.S. Route 45 to be featured as a Super Site.
Super Sites are showcased within a section of DCEO’s website, which provides a quick, well-screened contact for developers. The properties must meet standards typically required for very large industrial projects.
A statement from DCEO indicated, “With a new Governor and administration, exciting new strategies and programs are underway. One of these new programs relates to the creation of a highly selective sites program, the Illinois Super Sites Program.”
Effingham Mayor Mike Schutzbach stated, “I am impressed with the professionalism of City staff and their relentless commitment to promoting the City. I am thrilled one of the City’s sites has made this list and I am proud of the collaborative staff efforts of Todd Hull, Economic Development Director; Sasha Althoff, Economic Development Specialist; Steve Miller, City Administrator; Jeremy Heuerman, Director of Public Works; Michelle Wilkins, Building Official; and other City Hall employees.”
Director Todd Hull discussed the positive impact that this designation will have on economic development in Effingham. Hull stated, “The Super Sites Program will get the Hawickhorst-Jones development property front and center for those business and industry developers searching for larger project areas. The City continuously markets and promotes our community for development, and this added marketing tool is one more opportunity to keep Effingham competitive.”
A statement from the City thanks DCEO for selecting this property and thanks the Hawickhorst and Jones families for their partnership.
