Infant Death an Accident; No Foul Play Involved

Local authorities say no foul play is involved in the death of an Altamont infant.

Five-month-old Nicholas Manley died Sunday night. Nicholas was the son of Pastor Marcus and Amy Manley of rural Altamont.

Effingham County Coroner Kim Rhodes issued a statement that Effingham County Sheriff's Department and Abbott EMS received a call at approximately 9:40pm to rural Altamont regarding an unresponsive child. Officers reached the scene and discovered the infant. Rhodes' statement related that the child was found unresponsive by his parents in the Pac and Play playpen in the living room of the residence. The coroner's office was notified at 10pm to respond to the scene.

Rhodes' statement is that no foul play is involved. Autopsy and toxicology results required by state law are pending. The investigation is being conducted by the Effingham County Sheriff's Department and the Effingham County Coroner's Office.
