Deputy Chief Lake Retiring From PD

Effingham Police Department Deputy Chief Danny Lake has announced that he will retire May 6. Lake is retiring after serving in law enforcement for almost 30 years.

Lake began his career in 1991 serving as a deputy sheriff for the Clay County Sheriff's Department. He joined the Effingham County Sheriff's Department in 1993 and was subsequently hired by the Effingham Police Department in 1995. He has served as a patrolman, corporal, sergeant and will retire at the rank of Deputy Chief of Police serving in that position for the past year and a half.

Over the course of his career, Lake has assumed the roles of Patrolman, Narcotics Detective, K9 Handler, K9 Coordinator, Assistant Shift Commander and Shift Commander. He is also a military veteran, having served as a Staff Sergeant in the US Air Force Pararescue Team from 1982 to 1991 before becoming a law enforcement officer.

Police Chief Jeff Fuesting said, "Deputy Chief Lake has been an invaluable member of this administration and we will truly miss his work ethic and support. The Department is losing a dedicated and talented police officer and leader."

Effingham residents are invited to stop by the Police Department on Friday, May 3 at 1pm to thank Lake for his service. Chief Fuesting will present Lake with a Chief's Commendation in appreciation for his service to the citizens of Effingham.
