Phase One of the Teutopolis High School renovation project is underway, including construction of nine classrooms.

Phase Two, though, is yet to be finalized, and the Teutopolis school board wants input from the public before moving ahead with that phase of the project.

Phase Two could include demolition of the original portion of the high school building, conversion of two existing classroom into a band room, and construction of a hallway that would connect the remaining two portions of the high school.

Addition work, though, came up at Tuesday's school board meeting, including renovation of the restrooms most often used by the public outside J.H. Griffin Gym and the locker rooms. Those projects have been discussed in the past, but have never officially been part of Phase Two work.

Board members decided they would like input from the public on just what should be included in Phase Two. As a result, the Board has scheduled a special meeting for May 14 to find out what district residents think about the project. The Board Tuesday indicated they would use reserve funds already on hand to pay for the additional work if it's pursued, rather than sell additional bonds. There was also discussion of getting drawings of the additional work. The consensus was, even if the additional work isn't pursued now, they would always have the drawings on hand.
