Household Hazardous Waste Recycling Day Saturday

The City of Effingham Emergency Management Agency has partnered with the Illinois EPA, Heritage Environmental Service and Sanitation Services to host a Household Hazardous Waste Recycling Day this Saturday.

The event will run from 8am to 3pm at Village Square Mall.

Here's a list of items you can bring and what you can't bring.

Here's a list of the hazardous wastes to bring: oil-based paints, paint thinners, used motor oil, lawn chemicals, solvents, antifreeze, hobby chemicals, aerosol paints and pesticides, fluorescent lamp bulbs, drain cleaners, corrosives, unwanted medication (excludes controlled substances), herbicides, insecticides, pesticides, old gasoline, pool chemicals, cleaning products, mercury, household batteries and acids.

 
What not to bring: agricultural wastes, business/commercial sector wastes, explosives, fireworks, controlled substances, lead acid batteries, propane tanks, smoke detectors, farm machinery oil, fire extinguishers, biohazard waste and institutional wastes.
